WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's basketball team will look to make it a 6-1 November when it closes out the month with the second of a four-game homestand, a 6 pm encounter against the New York Institute of Technology at the Dana Center Monday evening. Bentley, number 24 in the most recent WBCA/USA Today Division II coaches' poll, will bring a 5-1 record into the contest following Saturday's 80-58 victory over Indianapolis. It was a nice bounce-back win for the Falcons following an overtime loss at Assumption four days earlier.

Against the Greyhounds, coach Barbara Stevens' club pitched a shutout for the first 7:50 while scoring the game's first 16 points and put up its highest scoring quarter of the season (26 in the first for a 19-point lead). The Falcons dominated the boards, 42-14, and achieved season-bests in points (80), field goal percentage (.519), three-pointers (12), three-point accuracy (.600) and assists (24).

Eleven of the 12 Falcons to see action played double-figure minutes and half of those had eight points or more. Junior All-Northeast-10 forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) and freshman guard Amy McConnell (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) each had 12 points, junior Melina Kollia (Athens, Greece) had a career-high nine rebounds, and freshman Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) led the way in assists with five.

Gemma, the team's top scorer with a 19.0 average (currently third best in the NE-10), will start Monday's game 29 points away from becoming the program's 34th 1,000-point scorer. In 66 career games, she's had that many six times, including once this year (31 vs. Assumption Tuesday).

Sophomore guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) is next on the scoring list for the Falcons, averaging 9.5 with an impressive .565 accuracy mark from downtown. Six others are between 6.8 and 4.5, including McConnell who has come off the bench to stick eight of her first ten career three-pointers.

NYIT will come north from Long Island with a 5-4 record following Saturday's 74-61 win over Puerto Rico-Bayamon. The Bears have won three of their last four, the only blemish during that stretch coming at home against Holy Family (70-63).

NYIT has four players who are averaging in doubles, a list headed by six-foot senior Dina Rageb (Cairo, Egypt). She opened the season with 34 points against the Academy of the Arts and is coming off a 22-point effort in Saturday's game. Rageb spends a lot of time at the line, attempting over seven free throws a game.

Junior Shannon Duer (West Islip) is only five-foot-seven, but she already has 49 offensive rebounds and a East Region-best average of 12.4 rebounds overall (in addition to 10.8 ppg).

The homestand will resume with a Saturday matinee against Southern New Hampshire and conclude Dec. 7 against Saint Anselm.
