WALTHAM, Mass. – After a successful season-opening trip to Philadelphia over the weekend, the Bentley University women's basketball team will play its third straight away from home when it opens its Northeast-10 Conference schedule Wednesday night at Merrimack College. Tip-off is scheduled at 5:30 pm with video at www.merrimackathletics.tv.

Coach Barbara Stevens' team will make the fairly short trip to North Andover with a 2-0 record following wins at Holy Family (79-54) and Philadelphia University (69-60). Both reached the NCAA tournament a year ago.

The Falcons shot 50 percent overall and 46 percent from three in the two wins, limited the opponents to a .325 accuracy rate and enjoyed a +24.0 rebound margin, best in the nation during the opening weekend. The one stat that wasn't a positive was turnovers with Bentley giving up the ball 23.5 times a game.

Merrimack split its opening two games, following a 75-66 win over the District of Columbia with a 78-49 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. In that one, the Warriors turned it over 30 times, with at least seven in each quarter.

Down in Philadelphia, Stevens started freshmen Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) and Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy), sophomore Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./ Damascus HS) and second-year captain Jane White (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan HS) along with junior preseason All-America Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy).

Both Gemma and Lewis turned in a double-double performance during the weekend. Gemma stuffed the stat sheet at Holy Family with 19 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Lewis led the way at Philadelphia, with 17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

Gemma, whose next rebound will be her 500th, is averaging 16 points and ten boards while Lewis, the NE-10 Spalding Rookie of the Week, follows at 10.5 ppg and 8.0 rpg, with her rebound production matched by the six-one Lux.

The bench was productive during the two games, giving Bentley 29.5 ppg with sophomore guard Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./Gill St. Bernard HS) leading the way. She hit five of eight three-balls for an average of nine points.

Merrimack's top scorer during the opening weekend was six-three senior center Madison Ward, with a 14 point per game average on 61 percent shooting.

Following the conference opener with the Warriors, the Falcons will get to play at home on Saturday with a 1:30 pm encounter with Franklin Pierce.
