Chris (Jennings) Olson to be Inducted into New England Basketball Hall of Fame

WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University forward Chris (Jennings) Olson, a Norwood native who now resides in Stoughton, will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame August 8 at the DCU Center in Worcester.

Olson will join other honorees representing a variety of categories, ranging from high school players to senior adults who still play the game at age 65 and over.  The New England Basketball Hall of Fame dinner has become one of, if not the, largest sports dinners in America.  Approximately 1900 people will be present for the event.

Olson played for the Falcons from 1983-87, helping the Falcons to a 95-21 record, a pair of Northeast-8 Conference regular season titles, two NE-8 tournament championships and three NCAA regional appearances.

Olson averaged over 10 points and seven rebounds during each of her final three seasons, leading the Falcons in rebounds as a senior and in field goal percentage as a junior. She was voted to the All-Northeast-8 team in both 1986 and 1987.

Olson finished her career with 948 points, 703 rebounds and 164 steals. She ranks seventh in program history in career offensive rebounds (315) and her 6.9 rebound average puts her 11th in program history.

The August 8th ceremony will be preceded on August 7th with activities at the iconic St. Mary's High School Gymnasium in Worcester. The August 7th program will include the first Annual New England Basketball Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Game between high school scholar-athlete teams representing Boston and Worcester.  On August 8th, the festivities will include a series of panel discussions featuring the likes of Hall of Famer's David Thompson and Dave Cowens, and a special ceremony in celebration of the History of Women's Basketball in New England.
