Bentley Back at Home for Final Inter-Divisional Match of Season

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's basketball team will be back in the Dana Center Saturday afternoon, hosting Pace University at 1:30 pm in the final inter-divisional match-up of the season. The Falcons' annual alumni game will precede the Bentley-Pace match-up at 11 am.

Bentley will be looking to bounce back from Thursday's 79-67 loss at Saint Rose that dropped the current record of the defending NCAA Division II national champions to 7-12 overall and 2-11 in the Northeast-10.

Pace will come into the Dana Center at 10-10 overall and 5-8 conference after registering wins over St. Michael's and Assumption in its last two games. It's been an up-and-down season for the Setters who started 2-6, won six in a row from Dec. 13-Jan. 7 and then lost four straight before the recent turnaround.

In Thursday's game, Bentley had four players score at least 11 points, the first time since a 66-51 win over Saint Anselm on Jan. 3 that the Falcons have had more than two in doubles. Sophomore forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) led the way with 22, senior guard Kelsey Mattice (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse HS) followed with 15, sophomore forward Brittany Gregory (Fishkill, N.Y./ John Jay HS) scored 13 and freshman guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) provided 11.

Gemma's 22 at Saint Rose elevated her to the top of the NE-10 scoring list with her average standing at 18.8. The six-footer is one of two conference players averaging at least four offensive rebounds and is third in both average rebounds (10.4) and free throws made and attempted (76-108).

Green, after scoring 15 and 11 in her last two games, is averaging 11.5 points, best among the conference's freshmen.

Mattice's average stands at a season-high 6.9 points per game after she posted her highest point total since scoring 15 in a win over Holy Family on Dec. 14. The point guard also leads the Falcons in assists with her 45 four more than Gemma's total.

Defense has been an issue of late for the Falcons with Bentley 14th in points allowed (68.7) and opponents field goal percentage (.423). Saint Rose shot 53 percent Thursday, becoming the fourth team in the last six games to hit at least 46 percent against the Falcons.

Pace has been a significantly different team home and away this season with the Setters 8-4 at their own Goldstein Athletics Center. In sharp contrast, they've been 2-6 away from Pleasantville. The Setters are third in the NE-10 in field goal percentage defense (.365) and have held their opponents under 40 percent 15 times, including the last four games.

Guards Margo Hackett and Gabriella Rubin, a pair of three-point threats, are the team's top scorers, averaging 12.3 and 11.5 points, respectively. Hackett, a senior, has connected 45 times from deep while averaging 12.2 points. Rubin, one of the NE-10's highest scoring freshmen, follows at 11.5.

Six-foot junior Yuni Sher follows at 10 ppg and is also Pace's top rebounder at seven a game. Senior Jaclyn Oskam is one of the NE-10's most accurate three-point shooters (38-92, .413) with two-thirds of her scoring coming from outside the arc.

Pace makes seven triples a game, ranking third in the conference in that category, and is also one of the NE-10's best in free throw accuracy and blocks.

After Saturday, Bentley's remaining schedule will be exclusively against Northeast Division teams, beginning Wednesday with a home game against Assumption.
