Gemma Repeats as NE-10 Spalding Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second straight week, Bentley University sophomore forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Spalding Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Gemma earned her latest award after leading the Falcons to a 76-62 win at Bridgeport Saturday afternoon with 31 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. She hit half of her 24 shots and was on target for six of her seven free throws.

It was her second straight 31-point double-double and she became the first Bentley player to score at least 30 in consecutive games since Kim Cummings in the 1995 Northeast-10 Conference playoffs. Gemma has accounted for half of the six 30-point game in the NE-10 this season.

The six-footer became the first player in Bentley's storied history to have three 30-point games in a season, a feat she accomplished in a span of 18 days. The three 30-point efforts also tied the program's career mark.

Gemma, who is averaging 18.3 points and 12.3 rebounds for the defending NCAA Division II national champions, leads the NE-10 in rebounding and is third in scoring. The latest national statistics have her ninth in Division II in rebounds, sixth in offensive rebounds (5.0) and third in double-doubles (8).

Bentley senior guard Kelsey Mattice (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse HS) was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll after providing the Falcons with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists in a 40-minute effort against Bridgeport. She averages 6.7 points and has risen to sixth in the NE-10 in three-point percentage after making 12 of her last 21 treys.

Bentley, 6-5, returns to action Jan. 3 against Saint Anselm College.
