WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University sophomore forward Jen Gemma (Milton/ Fontbonne Academy), who owns two of the four 30-point efforts in the Northeast-10 Conference this winter, has been named the NE-10 Spalding Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Gemma scored a career-high and Northeast-10 season-best 31 points, on 12-for-14 shooting, and completed her seventh double-double with 12 rebounds as Bentley got back on track with a 72-61 Sunday afternoon win over Holy Family, snapping the Tigers' six-game winning streak.

Overall, in a 1-1 week, the six-footer averaged 23.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, two assists and 1.5 blocks while shooting 62 percent from the field, including 3-for-3 from deep. Earlier in the week, she had 16 points and seven rebounds in a four-point loss to Franklin Pierce.

Gemma's 17.0 scoring average matches her high mark of the season and is the seventh best in the NE-10. She leads the conference in rebounds, with her 12.2 average 12th best nationally and Gemma has seven double-doubles, tied for second most in Division II.

Last year, Gemma averaged 10.1 points and 6.2 rebounds while coming off the bench during Bentley's 35-0 national championship season.

This week's Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included freshman point guard Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School), the conference' Rookie of the Year December 1 and 8. Smith averaged 11 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2 steals while shooting 47 percent overall, 50 percent from three (3-6) and 100 percent from the line (4-4). Against Franklin Pierce, she finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
