Battista Earns 3rd NE-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award; Brugliera Joins Her on Academic All-NE-10 Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the third consecutive year, Bentley University senior All-America and Capital One Academic All-America Lauren Battista (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS) has been selected as the recipient of the Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete Award for women's basketball.

Battista was also chosen for the Academic All-Northeast-10 team for the third straight year, as was classmate Jacqui Brugliera (Fitchburg/Wachusett Reg. HS).

The two four-time All-Conference honorees helped Bentley to a perfect 35-0 season and the program's first-ever NCAA Division II national championship. Both were chosen for the All-Tournament Team at the championships with Brugliera cited as the Most Outstanding Player.

Battista, the Northeast-10 Player of the Year for the second time in three years, finished her remarkable career as Bentley's all-time leading scorer with 2,112 points. The four-time NE-10 tournament MVP averaged a career-high 17.4 points, along with 5.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 58 percent overall, 42 percent from three and 82 percent at the line.

Battista, the Capital One Academic All-America of the Year for Division II, has earned a sparkling 3.95 GPA while majoring in marketing and liberal studies. She was voted to the Academic All-America team for the third time, making her second appearance on the first team, and became the first three-time WBCA Division II All-America in program history.

Brugliera averaged 10.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.9 blocks during her final collegiate season, numbers that rose to 12.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and one block in six NCAA tournament games. She finished her career seven points shy of 1,500, 12th best in Bentley history, and she's also number five all-time in rebounds (821).

Brugliera also got it done in the classroom, generating a 3.76 grade point average while majoring in marketing and liberal studies.
