WALTHAM, Mass. -- Junior guard Katherine Goodwin (Goffstown, N.H./Governors Academy) scored 13 points, senior guard Kim Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS) followed with 12 and the Falcon defense allowed only 20 points through the first 29 minutes as Bentley University rolled to its 11th straight win, 59-39 over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Wednesday night at the Dana Center.

Bentley, ranked 19th in Division II this week, improved to 11-1 for the first time in a decade and pushed its Northeast-10 record to 8-0, good for a one-game lead over second-place Assumption. Pace and American International, both of whom entered the night a game back of the Falcons in the standings, each suffered their second conference loss of the season, falling to Franklin Pierce and Merrimack, respectively.

The Chargers (2-10, 1-7 NE-10 after dropping their eighth straight) scored the game's opening basket, but the rest of the night belonged to the home team. Bentley had a pair of 15-0 runs in the first half and went into the locker room with a commanding 33-14 lead despite New Haven closing the half with a 6-0 run.

Five different players contributed points during the first run, which put the Falcons up 15-2 after eight minutes of play. Included were a pair of Brennan lay-ups and a top-of-the-key three-pointer from freshman forward Lauren Battista (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS).

After New Haven used a pair of Audrey Cunningham (Germantown, Md.) three-pointers to draw within 10 at 18-8, Bentley uncorked its second 15-0 run of the half. Once again, five different players were involved in the scoring and Brennan led the way with five points, including a corner three-ball.

The opening half saw Bentley limit the Chargers to 24 percent shooting with just three field goals in the first 18 minutes. New Haven finished the opening 20 minutes with more turnovers (15) than points, and received only two first-half points from its starting five.

Bentley opened the second half with nine straight points, the middle five scored by Goodwin. That resulted in a lead of 28, at 42-14, and Falcons maintained a lead of at least 20 the rest of the way.

Goodwin knocked down three of four triftectas en route to her 13 points, and Brennan also had five points and two steals in addition to her dozen points. Battista was the team's third double-digit scorer, finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Shatasia Kearse (Framingham/ Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) had a strong night on the boards, coming off the bench to claim nine.

Cunningham, a freshman, led New Haven with a game-high 16 points and four three-pointers.

Bentley outshot the Chargers 39-28 percent and had five different players combine for nine three-pointers.

Bentley will be on the road Saturday, playing a 1:30 contest at Southern Connecticut State.
