MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Junior guard Katherine Goodwin (Goffstown, N.H./Governors Academy), playing only miles from her home, scored 16 points and freshman forward Lauren Battista (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames HS) hit all six of her second-half shots en route to a career-best 14 points as Bentley University made it three in a row, 69-54 over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Sunday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse.

Bentley remained in a five-way tie at the top of the NE-10 standings with its third conference win, improved to 3-1 overall and ran its record against the Penmen on the road to 14-0. The victory was the 796th for Falcon coach Barbara Stevens, the sixth winningest coach in NCAA women's basketball history.

Bentley went into the locker room riding a five-point advantage, 33-28, due primarily to an 18-7 advantage in points off turnovers. Seventeen takeaways and a dozen offensive rebounds helped give the Falcons 14 more shot attempts, counteracting a poor shooting performance (35 percent) and 52 percent accuracy for the home team.

Nine different Falcons cracked the scoring column in the half with Goodwin leading the way with 11 points, including nine in the first 5:24.

The barrage of turnovers continued in the second half, and Bentley used a run of 12 straight points, over a stretch of 6:45, to open a 17-point lead, 50-33. Senior guard Kim Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS) got the run going with a three-ball, Goodwin followed with a drive to the basket and Battista hit an eight-foot jumper.

Two more Battista baskets, the first on a lay-up and the second from just inside the three-point line, made it 49-33, and a free throw from senior forward Elise Caira (Wakefield, Mass./Arlington Catholic HS) capped the surge.

The lead remained at 12 or higher the rest of the way and peaked at 19, 69-50, when Goodwin buried a corner three with 1:35 left.

By the time the game concluded, Bentley had amassed 35 points off an amazing 29 SNHU turnovers. The Falcons shot 52 percent in the second half to finish at 42 percent, almost identical to the Penmen, and had a 38-33 rebounding edge, including 16 at the offensive end.

Goodwin, in addition to her 16 points, chipped in with two steals and two assists. Battista finished 7-of-10 from the field and also had eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Brennan also scored in doubles, finishing with 10 points and four assists, and Caira gave the Falcons nine points and eight boards.

Six-foot forward Julie Houghtaling (Franconia, N.H.) registered a double-double for Southern New Hampshire (1-3, 0-3 NE-10), finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Bentley is also on the road Wednesday night, playing a 5:30 pm contest at UMass-Lowell.
