DURHAM, N.H. -- Sophomore guard Courtney Finn (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop HS) led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points as Bentley University, ranked 24th in Division II preseason, tuned up with a 78-51 victory over the University of New Hampshire in exhibition women's basketball Monday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.

Fueled by senior guard Kim Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS), Bentley scored the first ten points of the contest and vaulted to a 15-3 lead after six minutes. A Brennan steal and assist to a fast-break lay-up by Finn for the game's opening basket, and then she claimed the assist on a three-ball by junior Katherine Goodwin (Goffstown, N.H./Governors Academy).

Brennan drove to the basket for a lay-up that made it 7-0, and provided the assist on a Finn triple. After UNH finally got on the board, four-and-a-half minutes into the game, senior forward Elise Caira (Wakefield, Mass./Arlington Catholic HS) made two free throws and Brennan sank a three to make it 15-3. At that point, she had been directly involved with 13 of the 15, with three assists to go along with five points.

Bentley's first-half lead peaked at 19, 31-12 with 5:45 left. The Division I Wildcats closed to within 14 at the half, and used a 7-0 spurt early in the second to get within nine at 43-34. That would be as close as they would be over the game's final 31-plus minutes.

A 10-point game with 12:30 remaining, the Falcons regained control with a 12-3 spurt, capped by a three-point play by Goodwin. The 27-point final spread was the highest of the night, with Bentley finishing with a 10-2 run over the final 4:50.

Finn, who missed all of her freshman season following a knee injury, also contributed six rebounds, including five of Bentley's 17 offensive boards.

Following her in the scoring column was sophomore guard Kelsey Robertson (Arlington, Mass./ Arlington Catholic HS) with 11 points off the bench, a performance that include two from three from outside the arc. Brennan contributed nine points and six assists, and her scoring output was matched by Goodwin and freshman forwards Jacqui Brugliera (Fitchburg, Mass./Wachusett Reg. HS) and Lauren Battista (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames HS).

Bentley shot 46 percent overall and had six players combine for nine three-pointers. The Falcons owned the boards (50-28), scored 18 second-chance points and enjoyed a 24-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

Redshirt freshman guard Kelsey Hogan (Nashua, N.H.) led UNH with 11 points.

Bentley officially opens its season at fifth-ranked Holy Family next Monday night while New Hampshire's first game of the regular season is at Notre Dame Friday.
