5 Hits by Slavin but Bentley Drops A Pair in Florida

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Bentley University graduate student Julianne Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) had five hits in six at bats but despite that, the Falcons dropped a pair of games Sunday during the Rollins Round Robin at Rollins College's Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.

Bentley fell to Queens University (N.C.) 5-4 after the Royals rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh and then were blanked by the undefeated Rollins College Tars, 6-0, to finish the two-day trip at 1-3.

Against Queens, the Falcons took a 4-1 lead with four runs in the top of the sixth. Senior third baseman Kaileigh Serafini (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady HS) picked up the first RBI on a sacrifice bunt, Slavin scored on a wild pitch, senior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham HS) drew a bases loaded walk and sophomore catcher Ella Hillier (Tualitin, Ore./Tualitin HS) had an RBI single.

In the last of the seventh, Queens began the inning with three straight hits, capitalized on two Falcon errors and scored the game-winner on a sacrifice bunt.

Bentley outhit Queens 9-7 with Slavin and senior first baseman Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./ Half Hollow Hills West HS) each having three hits.

Against Rollins, sophomore righty Ashley Worrell (Oviedo, Fla.) scattered three hits and walked two during her complete game shutout. She also struck out four.

Two of the Falcon hits came from Slavin, completing a five-for-six afternoon.

Junior third baseman Chelsea Peace (Orlando, Fla.) drove in four runs for the 7-0 Tars, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Bentley will return to central Florida for 12 games during the second week of March.
