Freshmen Help Bentley to 9-0 Win over St. Michael’s

RINDGE, N.H. – Sophomore shortstop Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Technical HS) had four hits, freshman catcher Ella Hillier (Tualitin, Ore./Tualitin HS) drove in four runs and freshman right-hander Elise Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) pitched a one-hit shutout as Bentley University blanked St. Michael's College, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Northeast Division softball Tuesday evening at Franklin Pierce University. Due to the run rule, the game was stopped after five innings.

Bentley, which has won six of its last eight and now has its most victories since 2014, scored in every inning while improving to 17-21 overall and 9-8 Northeast Division. Four teams from the division qualify for the conference tournament and the win lifted the Falcons into a tie for fourth with four to play.

Hillier, whose 27 RBI are the most by a Falcon in a decade and tied for fifth most in program history, gave Bentley a 1-0 lead in the first when she drove in junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Reg. HS) with a single up the middle.

In the second, RBI singles by Allen and Hillier extended the lead to 3-0. The lead grew to five runs in the third on a two-run single to center by junior third baseman Kaileigh Serafini (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady HS).

Allen drove in the Falcons' seventh run with a line drive to center in the fifth and Hillier followed with a two-run single in the same direction.

Pereira, who struck out eight, allowed only a first inning single to St. Michael's senior pitcher Torie Rathwell (Guilderland, N.Y.). The win was her fifth of the season.

In addition to the four from Allen, Bentley's 15 hits included three from Hillier and two from both Korotsky and Serafini. Korotsky also scored three times.

Bentley will also be on the road tomorrow with a 4 pm make-up game at Assumption College.
