Hillier & Slavin Combine for 7 Hits, 6 RBI as Bentley Completes Franklin Pierce Sweep

RINDGE, N.H. – Freshman catcher Ella Hillier (Tualitin, Ore./Tualitin HS) and junior second baseman Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) were a combined 7-for-7 with six RBI as Bentley University completed a three-game sweep of Franklin Pierce University with a 13-3 win at the Bisaccia Softball Complex Sunday afternoon. Due to the run rule, the game lasted only five innings.

Hillier scored four times, drove in two and had her first career four-hit game, including a double and her first home run as a collegian. Slavin finished three-for-three with a triple, four RBI and a walk.

Ahead 1-0 after a Hillier double and Slavin single produced a first inning run, Bentley struck for two runs in the second. Junior center Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) led off with a double down the left field line and eventually scored on an error. Later in the inning, sophomore designated player Lauren Calabrese (Cave Creek, Ariz./Boulder Creek HS) scored on a ground out.

Bentley made it a 6-2 game with three runs in the third inning. Hillier homered and junior right fielder Sami Palazzolo (East Williston, N.Y./Wheatley School) had a two-run single down the right field line.

Ahead 8-2, Bentley broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning. Hillier had an RBI single, Slavin followed with an RBI triple to right center and the Falcons capitalized on a pair of Raven innings in the frame.

Bentley totaled 12 hits with Calabrese (2-for-2, one walk) the third Falcon to have a multi-hit afternoon.

Freshman right hander Ashley Keegan (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) reaped the benefits of the 12-hit, 13-run attack as she won her seventh game of the season. Keegan scattered six hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out one.

Bentley, with its fourth win in five games, improved to 14-19 overall, including 10-8 Northeast-10 and 6-6 Northeast Division. Franklin Pierce, winless in a dozen divisional games, dropped to 6-26 overall and 2-16 in conference games.

Bentley will be at home Wednesday for a 3 pm doubleheader against Assumption College.
