KISSIMMEE, Fla. – An RBI single by sophomore third baseman Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./ Worcester Technical HS) drove in the game-winning run in walk-off fashion and gave the Bentley University softball team a 2-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College in non-conference action at the Osceola Softball Complex Thursday.

With the game knotted at 1-1, sophomore pinch-hitter Montana Joyce (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead HS) was hit by a pitch to start the seventh. After a sacrifice, junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./ Bridgewater-Raynham HS) singled to short with Parinello moving to third. Allen, Bentley's leading hitter with a .317 average, hit the next pitch to left, bringing Allen with the winning run.

The victory over the Spartans followed a tough 1-0 loss to Bemidji State University earlier on Thursday.

As evident by the scores, Bentley received outstanding pitching in both contests. Freshman Elise Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) turned in a turned in a two-hitter against Bemidji and struck out seven without issuing a walk. Sophomore Lauren Calvanese (Cave Creek, Ariz./Boulder Creek HS) matched the two-hitter against St. Thomas Aquinas and allowed only one unearned run and four walks while fanning three.

The only run scored off Pereira came in the fifth inning without the ball leaving the infield. After a bunt single, a sacrifice and a wild pitch put Bemidji sophomore first baseman Sami Dullum (Harwood, N.D.) on third with two outs, she scored on an infield single to third by freshman pinch-hitter Elaina Christiansen (Brainerd, Minn.).        

Bentley's best scoring opportunity against Bemidji came in the first when the Falcons had runners on first and third with one out. However, sophomore Stephi Dullum (Harwood, N.D.) was able to pitch out of trouble for the Beavers.  Bentley freshman catcher Ella Hillier (Tualitin, Ore./Tualitin HS) had two of the three hits she allowed.

The Falcons had seven hits against STAC, including two apiece from Korotsky and Allen.

Bentley, 3-10, will wrap up their 12-game week at the Spring Games Friday by taking on Dominican College (N.Y.) and Indiana University (Pa.) at the Fortune Road Fields in Kissimmee, beginning at 9 am.
