Keegan Pitches Bentley Past Salem, 7-2; Falcons Blanked by Post in 2nd Game

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Sophomore righty Ashley Keegan (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic HS) carried a shutout into the seventh inning and finished with a seven-hit complete game as Bentley University defeated Salem University (W.V.) in non-conference softball Wednesday morning at the Osceola Softball Complex.

In the second game of the day, Bentley was limited to four hits, including two by junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham HS), in a 5-0 loss to Post University.

Keegan's second win of the spring saw her strike out four and not allow a walk. Before giving up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, she had allowed only one base runner to reach third base. Sophomore Lauren Calabrese (Cave Creek, Ariz. / Boulder Creek  HS) came on to get the final out.

Her teammates staked her to a 2-0 lead before she threw her first pitch of the afternoon. Sophomore third baseman Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Technical HS) drew a one-out walk, junior shortstop Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) singled to right and both scored on a double to center by freshman designated player Elise Periera (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS).

Bentley made it a 5-0 game in the third when junior first baseman Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West HS) had an RBI single, junior center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I../Smithfield HS) singled and scored on an error and junior second baseman Kaleigh Serafini (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady HS) drew a bases-loaded walk.

Bentley's nine-hit attack featured three by Casalino and two by Slavin.

Sophomore righty Bridget Betley (Fairfield, N.J.) was outstanding for Post in game two as she walked two and struck out nine. Four of those came in the third when Korotsky reached base on a wild pitch after the third strike.

Post scored three of its runs in the fourth with the inning featuring a two-run double by freshman Briana Wilky (Swedesboro, N.J.).

Bentley's 12-game trip to central Florida continues Thursday morning with games against Bemidji State and St. Thomas Aquinas.
