Bentley Falls to Bridgeport & Caldwell; 2 Hits in Each Game for Allen

CLERMONT, Fla. – Despite two hits in each game by sophomore third baseman Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Technical HS), the Bentley University softball team dropped two contests Tuesday during the The Spring Games. The Falcons fell to the University of Bridgeport, 7-2, in their first game of the day and to Caldwell University, 11-1 in five innings.

Against Bridgeport, junior shortstop Julie Slavin (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) accounted for both Bentley runs. She picked up an RBI in the sixth on a bases-loaded ground ball and drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning.

Allen and junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) each had two hits for Bentley, who were outhit 9-4.

Bridgeport, which received 10 strikeouts from junior Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.), led 3-0 after two innings and pulled away with four runs in the sixth. Infielders Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calif.) and Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) each had two hits and two RBI for the 8-1 Purple Knights.

Allen, who raised her batting average to a team-best .345, also had two hits in the Caldwell game. Slavin scored Bentley's only run of the game on a first-inning double by freshman catcher Ella Hillier (Tualitin, Ore./Tualitin HS).

Caldwell, 1-2, took charge of the game with eight runs in the third inning. Seven of the Cougars' 16 hits came in the inning, including a three-run double by freshman catcher Sara Raubertas (Berlin, N.J.).

Bentley, 1-8, will be back in action Wednesday morning with games against Salem International (9:00 am) and Post University (11:15 am) in Kissimmee, Fla.
