Bentley Swept by Southern New Hampshire Despite 4 Hits Apiece by Thompson & Korotsky

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Despite four hits apiece by freshman designated player Lea Thompson (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) and sophomore left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./ Bridgewater Raynham HS), the Bentley University softball team dropped both ends of a Northwast-10 Conference Northeast Division doubleheader, 3-1 and 6-4, Saturday at the SNHU softball field.

The opener ended on a walk-off two-out two-run homer by freshman catcher Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) in the bottom of the seventh.

Bentley (9-22, 4-6 NE10 Northeast) took a 1-0 lead in the third when Thompson scored on Korotsky's two-out triple. Southern New Hampshire matched the Falcon run in the fourth after a lead-off single from senior shortstop Brittany Perdigan (Stoughton, Mass.).

Korotsky had three of the Falcons' five hits in the opener off SNHU senior Tammy Lavallee (Candia, N.H.), who improved to 13-3 on the season.

In game two, after the Penmen scored twice in the third, Bentley took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. Senior first baseman Jordan Ballantyne (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington HS) had an RBI single, senior third baseman Stephanie McQuaid (Windham, N.H./Austin Prep HS) drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly and Thompson had an RBI single for the lead.

SNHU matched the Falcons' three-run fourth with three in the bottom of the fifth, including a game-tying lead-off homer by Lavallee.

Bentley scored one run in the sixth, on a Thompson RBI single, to draw within one at 5-4, but left the bases loaded in the inning.

There were 28 total hits in the nightcap, including 17 by the home team. Bentley's 11 hits included three by Thomson and two apiece from sophomore second baseman Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) and freshman catcher Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Technical HS).

Southern New Hampshire (28-8, 6-4 NE10 Northeast) received third hits apiece from Perdigao, freshman right fielder Coralie Mathieu (Methuen, Mass.) and freshman left fielder Jackie Gavin (Laconia, N.H.).

Bentley will be back at home Tuesday for a 3 pm doubleheader against Assumption College.
