Rivera, Calabrese Help Bentley Win for 4th Time in 5 Games, 7-4 over Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman right fielder Noa Rivera (Clifton, N.J./Hawthorne Christian Academy) had a pair of RBI triples and classmate Lauren Calabrese (Cave Creek, Ariz./Boulder Creek HS) carried a no-hitter into the seventh as Bentley University braved the rain and sleet for a 7-4 win over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball Tuesday afternoon on the Bentley softball field.

Bentley, with its fourth win in its last five games, improved to 8-15 overall, 5-5 in the conference and 4-2 in divisional action. Franklin Pierce, outhit 10-2, dropped to 3-13 overall, 0-6 conference and 0-6 division.

Bentley opened a 4-1 lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. Senior first baseman Jordan Ballantyne (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington HS) led off with an infield single and scored on Rivera's triple to right center. Following an error, the Falcons added to their lead with Rivera and sophomore right fielder Kaileigh Serafini (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady HS) both scoring from third on consecutive ground ball outs.

An RBI single by sophomore shortstop Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) made it 5-1 in the fourth, Rivera's three-bagger to left brought in senior second baseman Catie Noons (North Dighton/Dighton Rehoboth Reg. HS) in the fifth, and Noons had an RBI single in the sixth.

Calabrese, who walked seven and struck out two, lost her no-hit bid when sophomore catcher Ashley Conway (Salem, N.H.) led off the seventh with a sharp single to left. After two walks loaded the bases, freshman shortstop Ashley Rosario (Queensbury, N.Y.) cleared them with a double to right center.

Sophomore Kayleigh Fitzpatrick (East Hampstead, N.H./Timberlane Reg. HS) came in in relief and retired the three batters she faced for her second save of the season.

Sophomore left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) had three hits for Bentley and Noons matched Rivera's two.

Bentley, now in the midst of a ten-game home stand following the postponement of Wednesday's scheduled doubleheader at Assumption, will return to action Saturday with a noon doubleheader against Le Moyne College.
