Bentley Drops a Pair During Day 2 of Florida Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – Despite two hits in each game from sophomore center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS), the Bentley University softball team dropped two games Sunday during day two of their week-long trip to the Sunshine State.

The Falcons, now 0-3 on the season, fell to the University of Findlay, 2-0, and Hillsdale College, 5-4.

Against 3-5 Findlay, Bentley fell victim to a two-hit shutout thrown by junior lefty Hailey Bryan (Columbus, Ohio), who struck out three and didn't issue a walk.

Freshman Ashley Keegan (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic HS) pitched well for Bentley, allowing only one earned run and six hits in 5.2 innings of work.

The Oilers broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when senior Meredith Shepherd (Lima, Peru) tripled to center and scored on a passed ball. They added an insurance run an inning later on an RBI single to center by senior Amanda Delmonte (Toledo, Ohio) following a walk and a sacrifice.

Against Hillsdale, after falling behind 4-1, Bentley came back to tie the game with a three-run fourth. Freshman right fielder Courtney Woronka (Windham, N.H./Central Catholic HS) had a sacrifice fly, sophomore left fielder Sami Palazzolo (East Williston, N.Y./Wheatley School) scored on an error, and Romeo had a game-tying RBI on her fourth hit of the day.

Hillsdale (2-2) regained the lead in the fifth on a two-out pinch-hit single by junior Katie Kish (Grosse Pointe, Park, Mich.).

Bentley is back in action Monday morning with games against Mercyhurst (9 am) and Georgian Court (11 am).
