WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student Hannah King (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk HS) pitched a four-hit  shutout as Bentley University took game one of a Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball doubleheader against Southern New Hampshire University Sunday afternoon at Bentley.

SNHU came back to gain the split with an 8-4 game two win, securing a berth in the upcoming Northeast-10 championships in the process.

In the opener, the only run was scored in the third. Freshman first baseman Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgewater Raynham Reg. HS) reached on an infield single, was sacrificed to second, advanced to third on a two-out error and scored on a single to center by freshman shortstop Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS).

King walked one and struck out four while her counterpart from Southern New Hampshire, freshman Maddy Barone (Halifax), fanned seven while scattering eight hits.

Korotsky was the only player in the game with multiple hits, finishing two-for-four.

Southern New Hampshire (25-19, 11-9 NE10 Northeast) seized control of the nightcap in the second, a five-run inning making it a 6-0 lead. The big inning included a two-run single by sophomore catcher Erin Garczynski (Norwood), who finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI, and one of four runs scored by SNHU junior center fielder and lead-off hitter Devan Rabidou (Ashland).

Bentley got on the scoreboard in the third on back-to-back RBI singles up the middle by freshman center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) and senior third baseman Kaitlyn Lebreux (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford HS).

Trailing 8-2, the Falcons scored two more in the last of the seventh before a double play ended the contest and Bentley's season. Before that happened, Korotsky picked up an RBI on an infield single and senior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS)delivered an RBI single to right center in her final collegiate at bat.

Kennedy, the Falcons' leading hitter (.385), and junior second baseman Catie Noons (North Dighton/Dighton-Rehoboth Reg. HS) each had two hits for Bentley, which totaled ten in the game.

Bentley finished the 2017 season at 12-24, including 5-15 in the NE10's Northeast Division.
