Franklin Pierce Rallies for 6-5 Walk-Off Win over Bentley; Kennedy Reaches 100

RINDGE, N.H. – Bentley University senior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) had both her 100th career hit and a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons dropped a 6-5 decision to Franklin Pierce University Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball at the Bisaccia Softball Complex.

The Ravens, who trailed 4-0 after five-and-a-half innings, struck for four runs in the bottom of the sixth and two in the seventh to claim the victory.

Bentley (6-14, 0-5 NE10 Northeast) built its lead by scoring one run in the second and three in the third. Kennedy's 100th career  hit, a single to second, drove in freshman designated player Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./ Half Hollow Hills West HS), who had led off the third with a single. After Kennedy stole second to put two runners in scoring position, freshman second baseman Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) made it a 4-0 game with a two-run single to right center.

Franklin Pierce, limited to two hits by grad student Hannah King (Kennebunk, Maine/ Kennebunk HS) through five, tied the game up in the sixth. Junior center fielder Cassidy Sorenson (Billerica, Mass.) had a two-run homer, junior shortstop Jaclyn Cortese (Upton, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly and the tying run scored on a throwing error.

Bentley regained the lead in the top of the seventh. Freshman pinch-runner Sami Palazzolo (East Williston, N.Y./Wheatley School) went from first to third on a sacrifice and scored on Kennedy's sac fly to left.

In the home half of the seventh, Franklin Pierce junior right fielder Abbigael Cook (Smithfield, R.I.) hit a one-out double down the left field line and scored on a single up the middle by freshman catcher Ashley Conway (Salem, N.H.). After a single and an error loaded the bases, Conway came home with the winning run on a single through the right side by junior designated player Dominique Bisaccia (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.).

Freshman lefty Amelia Mamone (Wynantskill, N.Y.) earned the win for Franklin Pierce (1-19, 1-5 NE10 Northeast) following 4.2 innings of quality relief (four hits and one run allowed).

Slavin and junior third baseman Stephanie McQuaid (Windham, N.H./Austin Prep HS) each had two hits for Bentley, as did Conway and Sorenson for the Ravens.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a noon doubleheader at Franklin Pierce Saturday.
