LEESBURG, Fla. – After winning four of its previous five games, the Bentley University softball dropped a pair on Thursday in non-conference action at the Sleepy Hollow Field with the Falcons blanked by Winona State, 10-0, and topped by the University of Bridgeport, 9-1. Both games ended after five innings due to the eight-run rule.

Winona, off to a 12-3 start, broke open a 1-0 game with four runs in the fourth inning and a big five-run fifth. That inning featured a two-run double by junior pinch-hitter Cassie Santiago (Bloomington, Minn.) and a game-ending three-run homer to left by junior third baseman Jamee Schleis (Green Bay, Wisc.).

Benefitting from the ten-run, nine-hit attack was freshman Jaida Reynen (Green Bay, Wisc.) who authored a four-hitter with seven strikeouts. She stranded four runners in scoring position.

In contrast, Bridgeport (4-0) started early, scoring four in the first, three in the second and one in the third to claim an 8-0 lead. The Purple Knights capitalized on four Bentley miscues to score four unearned runs, including the game-ender that scored on single up the middle by junior center fielder Gabryelle Dubois (Carlisle, Iowa) in the bottom of the fifth.

Bentley's only run of the second game was scored in the top of the fifth. Freshman first baseman Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater Raynham Reg. HS) reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on a single to center by classmate Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS).

Bentley senior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) was 3-for-5 in the two games, raising her average over .500. Korotsky and junior shortstop Stephanie McQuaid (Windham, N.H./Austin Prep) also had a hit in each game for the 4-5 Falcons.

Bentley will finish the Florida portion of its schedule Friday with games against Le Moyne (8 am) and Holy Family (10:30 am) in Minneola.
