Quality Pitching Lifts Bentley to a Pair of Wins over Northeast-10 Opponents

CLERMONT, Fla. – Freshman Kayleigh Fitzpatrick (East Hampstead, N.H./Timberlane Reg. HS) pitched a five-hitter against The College of Saint Rose and graduate student Hannah King (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk HS) followed with a four-hitter against Le Moyne College later in the day as the Bentley University softball team posted a pair of wins Monday at Legends Way.

Bentley stretched its winning streak to three and improved to 3-2 on the young season by besting Saint Rose 4-2 and Le Moyne 2-1.  In both contests, the Falcons scored all of their runs in the sixth inning after entering the frame on the short end of the score.

In the opener, after an error and a single to start the inning, freshman first baseman Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater Raynham HS) singled to left to tie the contest at two apiece. Senior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) followed with an RBI single to center and she later scored the Falcons' fourth run.

In the sixth inning of the Le Moyne game, Korotsky reached on an error to start the inning and Kennedy followed with a single. After a ground out, freshman center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./ Smithfield HS) grounded to short with Korotsky beating the throw home to tie the game at 1-1. Junior shortstop Stephanie McQuaid (Windham, N.H./Austin Prep) plated Kennedy with the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to right.

Bentley totaled only seven hits in the two games with Kennedy the only player with two.

Fitzpatrick's first collegiate win saw her allow two unearned runs, walk two and strike out a pair. The only run off King was also unearned and she struck out six while improving her record to 2-1.

Following a day off Tuesday, Bentley will face Minnesota State Moorhead and Concordia (N.Y.) Wednesday morning.
