CLERMONT, Fla. – The first career hit, an RBI single to right, for Bentley University freshman catcher Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollows Hills West HS) plated the game-tying run in the bottom of the eighth and the Falcons capitalized on two errors later in the inning to earn a 3-2 extra-innings win over Ferris State University in college softball action Sunday afternoon at Legends Way 1 Field.

\The win was the first in three games for the Falcons, who were shutout by LIU Post earlier in the day, 7-0.

Against Ferris, Bentley claimed a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the fifth inning, a frame that began with freshman center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) reaching on a single to right. Junior shortstop Stephanie McQuaid (Windham, N.H./Austin Prep HS) attempted to sacrifice her to second, but the ball was misplayed and Romeo raced all the way home for an unearned run.

After Ferris State evened things up in the sixth and the game went to extras, the international tie-breaker came into effect in the eighth inning. Two Bentley errors allowed the Bulldogs to go up 2-1, but the Falcons were able to bounce back in the bottom half.

McQuaid was placed on second and was sacrificed to third. Following a pop-up, Casalino delivered with two outs, making it a 1-1 game. Two Bulldog miscues allowed freshman pinch-runner Sami Palazzolo (East Williston, N.Y./Wheatley School) to race home from third with the game-winner.

Trinity College transfer and current Bentley grad student Hannah King (Kennebunk, Maine/ Kennebunk HS) earned her first Falcon win after scattering eight runs and striking out two in eight innings of work.

The earlier game saw LIU Post sophomore Hannan Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) toss a seven-hitter with two strikeouts. Romeo and senior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) each had two of the Falcons' seven hits.

LIU Post struck for four runs in the third to open a 5-0 lead and completed the scoring with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Pioneers totaled eight hits, including two apiece from freshman right fielder Abbey Fortin (Langley, B.C.), who also scored twice, and junior center fielder Claire Travis (East Meadow, N.Y.).

The trip will continue Monday with Bentley facing a pair of Northeast-10 Conference foes at Legends Way, Saint Rose at 3:30 pm and Le Moyne at 6 pm.
