Missouri-St. Louis Uses Long Ball to Spoil Bentley Opener, 10-0

LEESBURG, Fla. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis, playing its 18th game already this season, slammed four home runs, including three in the first inning, to spoil the season-opener for the Bentley University softball team, 10-0, at Sleepy Hollow Field Saturday afternoon.

The 12-6 Tritons, who already have 18 homers this season, were powered by sophomore catcher Serena Olson (Fernley, Nev.), who homered in the first and ended the contest with a grand slam with one out in the bottom of the fifth. The two home runs gave her six already this season.

UMSL, which was nationally-ranked earlier in the season, wasted no time establishing control as three of its first four batters cleared the fence. Sophomore second baseman Reagan Osborn (Harrisonville, Mo.) led off the bottom of the first with a homer to left. Olson went deep to center one out later and senior shortstop Alex Stupek (Oreana, Ill.) followed with hers going to right.

While the Tritons were homering four times, Bentley was limited to just two hits by freshman Andee Tiffee (Fort Smith, Ark.). Senior right fielder Chelsea Vena (Matawan, N.J./Saint James Vianney HS) singled in the second and senior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) did the same in the fourth.

Bentley will return to action on Sunday with games against both LIU Post (1 pm) and Ferris State (3:30 pm). Both of those contests will be at Legends Way in Clermont.
