Fogarty Authors Two More Shutouts as Bentley Takes A Pair, 1-0 over Caldwell & 8-0 over Nyack

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Bentley University junior Tara Fogarty (Chester, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic HS( authored her third and fourth shutouts of the season as the Falcons improved to 5-3 with wins over Caldwell College, 1-0, and Nyack College, 4-0, in non-conference college softball Thursday at the National Training Center.

Fogarty is off to a 5-2 start with shutouts in four of her six starts. She pitched a three-hitter with no walks and three strikeouts against Caldwell, and had a five-inning one-hitter against Nyack as that game was halted after four-and-a-half innings due to the eight-run rule. As she did in the earlier game, Fogarty struck out three without issuing a walk.

Fogarty retired the first ten batters she faced against Caldwell and 14 of the final 15 who stepped to the plate against her in the Nyack game. In neither game did a runner advance past second base.

Bentley scored the only run of the Caldwell game in the fourth inning. Junior Meghan Carter (Hudson, Mass./Hudson HS) led off with a single, was sacrificed to second, and an out later, scored on a single to left by freshman third baseman Kelly Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS).

Fogarty received more offensive support against Nyack, not that she needed it, with Bentley scoring four times in the second and again in the fourth.

In the second, she helped herself by leading off with a single and eventually scoring the game's first round on a single to right by freshman first baseman Samantha Tierney (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketchum HS). The other three runs scored courtesy of two Warrior errors.

Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Kasson (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) led off the bottom of the fourth with an inside-the-park home run. The inning also included an RBI double from freshman left fielder Jackie Gauthier (Braintree, Mass./Braintree HS).

Kasson was 3-for-3, raising her batting average to .462, and the team's nine hits also included two from Fogarty.

Bentley, which has won four of its last five, wraps up its season-opening Florida trip Friday morning with games against New York Tech and St. Michael's.
