Abraham & Edwards Named Men’s Cross Country Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. – Seniors Tom Abraham (Lowell/Lowell HS) and Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) have been named captains of the 2019 Bentley University men's cross country team, head coach Kevin Curtin announced.

"Ben and Tom have earned the team's respect and will do a great job of leading the team this fall," said Curtin. "Both of them stepped up their training last spring and finished the year on a fine note. I expect that to carry over to this fall."

Abraham was among the team's top four finishers in each of the four meets he ran last fall. He placed 69th in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, covering the 8,000-meter course in 27:17.99, and was 73rd two weeks later in the NCAA Division II East Regional with a 10,000-meter time of 35:38.40. Both were improvements over his performance in the same meets a year earlier.

Abraham, who was 59th in the 2016 NE10 Championships, was 12th in the 5,000 at last spring's conference outdoor championships.

Edwards was one of Bentley's top three in every race last fall and is the Falcons' top returning runner. He finished 53rd in the Northeast-10 Championships and 35:37.00 in the NCAA Regional with times of 26:44.06 and 35:37.00, respectively.

Edwards' junior year also included finishing 13th in the 5,000 at the indoor NE10's and 14th at the same distance outdoors.

Bentley opens its 2019 season Saturday at the Jim Sheehan Invitational in Leominster.
