Murphy Top Finisher for Bentley During Northeast-10 Championships

HOPKINTON, N.H. – Competing only about seven-and-a-half miles from his hometown, Bentley University senior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) was the Falcons' top finisher during the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Cross Country Championships, contested Sunday at Hopkinton State Park.

Murphy completed the 8,000-meter course in 26:11.32 to finish 32nd overall in a field of 151 runners.

Bentley's number two man was junior Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS), who was 53rd in 26:44.06.

The Falcons had three others in the top 75 with junior Tom Abraham (Lowell, Mass./Lowell HS) 69th (27:17.99), senior Nick Accardi (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk HS) 72nd (27:24.41) and freshman Derek Pittorino (Westborough, Mass./Westborough HS) 75th (27:25.81). Junior Michael Cannata (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) followed Pittorino across the finish line, taking 76th.

As a team, Bentley finished eighth among 15 teams with a score of 259.

Southern Connecticut State edged Stonehill College for team honors, 50-57, while American International's Leakey Kipkosgei captured the individual championship for the third straight year and became the tenth straight AIC runner to finish first. He posted a 24:22.11 to defeat Stonehill's Lucas Taxter by about six seconds.

Bentley will wrap up the season Nov. 17 with the NCAA Division II East Regional in Bethpage, N.Y.
