Murphy Sets Pace for Bentley at Lewis Conference Crossover

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – In a meet that included teams from across the country and seven currently in the Division II Top 25, senior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) was the top finisher for the Bentley University men's cross country team at the Lewis University Conference Crossover.

Murphy finished the 8,000-meter course in 27:10.8, good for 155th in a field of 282 runners. The next two Falcons to finish were senior co-captain Dan Hergott (Wallingford, Conn./Xavier HS) and junior Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS). They crossed consecutively with Hergott 179th in 27:31.8 and Edwards trailing by seven-tenths of a second.

Bentley, with a score of 798, was last among the 27 teams.

Western State, the fifth-ranked team in Division II, outran No. 11 Queens (N.C.) for team honors, 84-115, with No. 13 Simon Fraser a close third.

Southern Indiana's Austin Nolan was the individual champion, winning by 1.9 seconds with a 24:33.8.

Bentley's next race is the Kirsch Cross Country Cup in Hopkinton, N.H. Oct. 20.
