HOPKINTON, N.H. – Freshman Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS), in his first collegiate competition in his home state, was the number one finisher for the Bentley University men's cross country team during the third annual Kirsch Cup, hosted by Franklin Pierce University at the Hopkinton State Park Friday afternoon.

Murphy ran the 5,000-meter course in 16:07.7 to place 15th overall in a field of 116. That was second best among freshmen.

Murphy was one of five Falcons to finish in the top 33 with senior captain Sean Nee (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS) 22nd (16:16.0), freshman Dan Hergott (Wallingford, Conn./ Xavier HS) 24th (16:17.9), sophomore Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) 31st (16:27.3) and sophomore Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) 33rd (16:34.0).

As a team, Bentley was fifth among ten teams with its score of 107 putting the Falcons just one point back of fourth-place Merrimack College. The host Ravens captured the team championship, 29-38 over second-place Southern New Hampshire. SNHU had the individual champion with Ignatio Hernando breaking the tape in 15:23, two seconds before Franklin Pierce's Colton Ham.

Next up for the Falcons will be the Northeast-10 Championships on Oct. 25.
