Gettings, Arnold Impress During Opening Outdoor Meet of 2019

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --Juniors Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS) and Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) were among the top performers for the Bentley University men's track and field team during Saturday's Bridgewater State Invitational, the squad's first outdoor meet of the spring.

Gettings took first in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 58.76 seconds, while Arnold was third of 26 in the 200 (23.57) and sixth of 26 in the long jump (19'9.5").

Both were also part of the Falcons' 4x400 relay team that placed third in 3:36.08. That quartet also included sophomore Anthony Catino (North Reading, Mass./North Reading HS) and senior Ryan Kenney (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta Sperry HS).

Bentley had three finish amongst the leaders in the 400 meters. Junior Robert Moritz (Singapore) was third of 30 with a 52.47, sophomore Mark Stanic (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton HS) eighth in 53.92 and freshman Devin Wendel (Westfield, N.J./Westfield HS) ninth in 54.10. Moritz and Stanic were also eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 200 as they turned in times of 23.98 and 24.01.

Senior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) was second of 15 in the 10,000, finishing in 33:25.68.

Senior Michael Carpino (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield HS) led Bentley in the throws as he posted personal bests in both the shot and the discus. He finished sixth of 36 in the discus with a throw of 111 feet, one inch, and his 41'2.25" in the shot was good for ninth among 45 competitors. Also in the discus, freshman Joe Chau (Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS) was seventh (110'3").

The team standings had Bentley eighth among 18 teams with 46 points.

Next up for Bentley is the Bryant Invitational next weekend.
