Mattson, Arnold Place at NE10 Championships; Another School Record for Hurwitz

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Senior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) and junior Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) placed for the Bentley University Falcons during day one of the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Smith College.

Mattson was fifth in the long jump, clearing 18 feet, 3.25 inches. She'll be back in action Sunday, competing in the 400 meters and the triple jump.

Arnold finished sixth in the long jump, with a distance of 21 feet, 9.5 inches, and was also tenth in the 60 meter dash (7.17).

Sophomore Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS) broke the school record in the 60 hurdles for the third time in eight days but missed qualifying for the finals by just one-hundredth of a second. Her 9.28 clocking bettered the 9.39 she set at MIT last Saturday and the 9.40 she turned in last Friday at Boston University.

Sophomore Antonio Catino (North Reading/North Reading HS) was the number eight qualifier in the men's 60 hurdles. His time of 8.88 seconds was just a hundredth of a second off his personal best.

In the team standings, the Bentley men are tied for ninth with three points and the women tenth with four.

Sunday's action gets underway at 10 am.
