Sihvonen Captures 2nd Northeast-10 Javelin Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second time in three years, Bentley University senior All-America Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) is the Northeast-10 Conference men's javelin champion.

Sihvonen captured the title Friday afternoon during day one of the 2018 Northeast-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

Previously the conference champion in 2016, he had a best throw of 205 feet, 1.75 inches to take first by more than eight feet over runner-up John Plisko of Assumption College. His best distance came on his second throw of the competition and he nearly matched it on his fifth attempt of the meet.

Bentley also received a strong showing from junior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS), who finished second of 24 in the 10,000 meters. His 32:34.77 bettered his personal best by 7.44 seconds and put him a little more than 40 seconds behind the winner, Sean Beney of Le Moyne.

Sophomore Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) moved to sixth on Bentley's all-time list in both the 100 and the 200 with his performance Friday. He was 11th of 31 in the 200 with his 22.17 bettering his previous best by 0.51 seconds, and he placed 13th of 29 in the 100 in 11.11 seconds, a PR by six-hundredths of a second.

Arnold was also ninth of 19 in the long jump after clearing 22 feet, 3.25 inches. That bettered his previous best by two-and-a-half inches and moved him from seventh to fourth in program history.

Sihvonen and Murphy combined for 18 points, putting Bentley seventh among 11 teams entering Saturday's action.
