CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS), senior All-America Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) and senior Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) turned in winning performances for the Bentley University men's outdoor track and field team Saturday during the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT.

Gettings won his first event as a collegian, capturing the 400 intermediate hurdles in 55.41 seconds, fourth best in the Northeast-10 Conference this spring. He crossed the line 0.99 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Jephte Wagnac of Rhode Island College.

First-place finishes are nothing new for Sihvonen, who won a javelin competition for the second time this season and the 12th time in his career. His throw of 201 feet, 6 inches was his second best of the season and gave him a winning margin of nearly 40 feet. Freshman and teammate Peter Maselli (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson HS) took second with his 162'10.5" a new personal best by more than eight feet.

Higgins ran to victory in the 1500 meters, reaching the line in 4:04.34. That was 2.61 seconds ahead of MIT freshman Dylan Doblar and was his second career victory. The previous one came in the 5,000 at the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational a year ago.

Bentley also finished first in the 4x400 relay with Gettings combining with graduate David Stoffel (Luxembourg), sophomore Robert Moritz (Singapore) and senior Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) for a season-best time of 3:28.02. They bettered a quartet from UMass-Boston by more than five seconds.

Sophomore Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) had a strong afternoon as he was third of 27 in the long jump (21'3.25"), fourth of 38 in the 200 (22.68) and a member of the Falcons' 4x100 relay that was third.

Bentley had four of the top nine in the 400 with the list of Falcons headed by Moritz, who was third of 24 in 51.70. Skarin was fifth (52.62), freshman Mark Stanic (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton HS) eighth (52.62) and freshman Niko Jancaterino (Buzzards Bay/Falmouth HS) ninth (53.15).

Another event that Bentley dominated was the 1500 with five of the top nine. Junior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) was third of 20 with a 15:48.41. Sophomore Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) followed in fourth (15.56.71), sophomore Thomas Abraham (Lowell/Lowell HS) was next in fifth (16:02.18), junior Dan Hergott (Wallingford, Conn./Xavier HS) took seventh (16:08.77) and junior Nicholas Accardi (Seekonk/Seekonk HS) was ninth (16:47.83).

Freshman Anthony Catino (North Reading/North Reading HS) finished second among 15 competitors in the 110 hurdles, finishing in 15.94 seconds.

Other finishes of note included junior Michael Carpino (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) in the shot put (5th of 25, a PR 41'0.5") and sophomore Michael Cannata (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS)  in the 800 (8th of 33, 2:03.74).

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational.
