Higgins, Sihvonen Among Bentley Standouts in UC San Diego’s Triton Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Seniors Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) were among the top performers for the Bentley University men's track and field team during the UC San Diego Triton Invitational Saturday.

Higgins ran to number one on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list in the 5,000 meters, as well as to number six on the program's all-time list, by breaking 15 minutes for the first time. His 14:58.07 improved on his previous best by about 19 seconds and put him 11th of 40 in the event.

Sihvonen, a 2017 All-America, finished eighth of 33 in the javelin, clearing exactly 200 feet.

Junior Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) set new PRs in both the 100 meters (11.17) and the 200 (22.86) while also turning in the NE10's ninth best long jump this season (21'2.75"). He finished 11th of 26 in the long jump, 19th of 41 in the 100 and 28th of 44 in the 200.

Arnold was also part of Bentley's 4x400 relay team that moved to fifth on the NE10 performance list with a 3:28.75.

Two other Falcons who moved into the top seven on the NE10 performance list were sophomore Josh Gettings (Lowell, Mass./Lowell HS) and senior Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS). Gettings ran the 400 hurdles in 56.02 and Skarin achieved a 1:55.03 in the 800, good for 22 among 64 competitors.

Members of the team were also in New London, Conn. for the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College. In that meet, senior Beau Kraft (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) was third of 37 in the shot put (43'9.5") and fifth of 40 in the discus (43'8.5").

Also in the shot, sophomore JT Brine (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) and junior Michael Carpino (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) finished in the top eight. Brine's throw of 40'11.5", good for eventh, was a PR by nearly 11 inches. It also ranks 12th in Bentley history. Carpino was eighth at 40'.7.5".

Freshman Peter Marselli (Croton-on-Hufson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson HS) set a PR in the discus (154'8") while placing 11th of 36. Another PR came from freshman Brian Shevlin (Floral Park, N.Y./ Chaminade HS) in the 100. He was 24th of 64 in 11.49 seconds. Junior Dan Hergott (Wallingford, Conn./Xavier HS) placed 23rd of 69 in the 1500, finishing in 4:09.08.

Bentley's next action is the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT next Saturday.
