Murphy, Sihvonen Post Winning Performances at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – During the eighth annual Yellow Jacket Invitational at American International College, the Bentley University men's track and field team received winning performances from junior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) and senior All-America Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS).

Murphy's victory came in the 10,000 meters with his time of 32:41.81 a personal best by 1.03 seconds and the second best recorded by a Northeast-10 Conference student-athlete this season. He won the race by nearly a full minute with Hartford's Willy Pierce the runner-up. Also in the 10,000, junior Nicholas Accardi (Seekonk/Seekonk HS) was seventh in 34:21.22, tenth best in the NE10 so far this season.

Sihvonen, who has previously met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the javelin, was first of 19 in the event with a throw of 196 feet, 4 inches. Springfield's Thomas Callis was a distant second at 186'11".

Bentley achieved a trio of third-place finishes in the meet, including sophomore Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS) in a field of 17 in the 400 hurdles (56.75) and senior Beau Kraft (Bayport, N.Y./ Bayport Blue Point HS) in a field of 24 in the shot (43'8.5"). Gettings' time put him at number three on the NE10 performance list. Kraft was also seventh of 23 in the discus after posting a throw of 124 feet.

Also in the shot, junior Michael Carpino (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) was sixth with a 39'1.75".

Bentley's other third came in the 4x400 with Gettings, freshman Tristan Cronin (Harvard/ Bromfield School), sophomore Robert Moritz (Singapore) and grad student David Stoffel (Luxembourg) combining to finish in 3:33.33.

In the 1500, senior Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) was fifth of 44 with his 4:04.36 a new PR by 0.12 seconds and classmate Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) was eighth (4:14.12).

Moritz was sixth of 28 in the 400 (52.18, a PR by 0.42 seconds) and junior Ryan Kenney (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush Henrietta Sperry HS) was seventh of 42 (23.11, a PR by 0.66 seconds).

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in a pair of meets, the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College and the UC San Diego Triton Invitational.
