Higgins, Arnold Lead Bentley During Opening Day of NE10 Track Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Senior Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and sophomore Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) were the top performers for the Bentley University men's indoor track and field team Saturday during the opening day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at Smith College.

Higgins accounted for the Falcons' only points on Saturday with a seventh-place finish in the 5,000 meters (15:20.27). Junior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) also impressed in the event, placing ninth with his 15:24.84 a new personal best by 0.38 seconds.

Arnold qualified for Sunday's finals in the 60 meter dash with his 7.05 effort a PR by 0.09 seconds and good for third on Bentley's all-time list. He had the fifth best qualifying time out of a field of 27.

Arnold also missed qualifying for the 200 finals by only three-hundredths of a second, finishing ninth of 23 with a 22.84. In the long jump, he matched his PR, placing 12th with a 21'1.25".

Also in the long jump, senior David Hernandez (Tokyo, Japan) was ninth (21'5.5") with the tenth best performance in program history.

The championships will conclude on Sunday.
