WALTHAM, Mass. –Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) provided the only victory for the Bentley University men's indoor track and field team Saturday during the Reggie Poyau Memorial at Brandeis University. The sophomore cleared 21 feet in the long jump, just a quarter-inch shy of his career best, to win the event by four inches over Southern Maine's Kyle Farrar. 

His afternoon also included placing third among 39 runners in the 55-meter dash with his time of 6.66 seconds in the finals an improvement of 0.21 seconds from his performance in the same meet a year ago. He was also eighth of 39 in the 200 (23.84), finishing immediately in front of classmate Tristan Leachman (Falmouth/Falmouth HS) (23.86).

Bentley received second-place finishes from seniors Beau Kraft (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) and Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) in the shot and 3,000 meters, respectively. Kraft, one of 17 competing in the shot, released a throw of 44 feet, 10.25 inches to surpass his previous best by a half-inch. It put him at number six on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list and seventh on Bentley's all-time list.

Higgins, with a time of 9:02.56, was one of three Falcons to score in the 3,000. Junior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) was fourth in 9:14.05 and sophomore Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) took sixth in 9:29.38.

Senior Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) posted a pair of thirds, in the 600 (1:28.02) and as part of the Falcons' 4x400 relay team (3:38.99). The relay also included sophomore Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS) and freshmen Tristan Cronin (Harvard/Bromfield HS) and Mark Stanic (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton HS).

In addition, Cronin was sixth in the 600 (1:29.92), Gettings followed in seventh (1:29.94) and Stanic was seventh in the 400 (55.22). Right in front of Stanic were sophomore Ryan Farrar (East Greenbush, N.Y./Catholic Central HS) (5th, 54.96) and freshman Niko Jancaterino (Buzzards Bay/ Falmouth HS) (6th, 55.10).

Senior Dillon Sylvester (Franklin, N.H./Franklin HS) reached the finals in the 55 hurdles, finishing sixth in 8.94 seconds after running an 8.86 in the prelims.

Bentley was fifth of eight in the team standings after collecting 54 points. Southern Maine edged Brandeis for the top spot, 131-120.

Next Sunday, Bentley will be at Harvard for the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational.
