Sihvonen Named Northeast-10 Field Athlete of the Year

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University javelin specialist Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS), who recently finished his junior year, has been selected as the Men's Field Athlete of the Year in the Northeast-10 Conference by conference's men's track and field coaches. The conference announced its 2017 award winners on Friday.

Sihvonen capped his third collegiate season by finishing ninth in the NCAA Division II Championships with a throw of 210 feet, one inch, a performance that earned him second-team All-America honors from the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association.

In two previous championships this past season, Sihvonen placed third during both the New England Championships (202'11") and the Northeast-10 Championships (193'9"). It was the third straight year that the 2016 NE10 champion earned All-New England accolades.

Sihvonen's 2017 campaign also included a school record throw of 214'10" during the Black and Gold Invitational at Bryant University Apr. 1. That bettered the mark of 200'8" he achieved as a sophomore.

Sihvonen, a USTFCCCA All-East Region honoree for the third straight season, was also the NE10 Men's Field Athlete of the Week four times this spring.
