Sihvonen, Arnold Post Bentley’s Top Finishes During Day 1 of Northeast-10 Championships

EASTON, Mass. – Junior Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) and freshman Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) had the top day one finishes for the Bentley University men's outdoor track and field team Saturday during the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at Stonehill College's W.B. Mason Stadium.

Sihvonen, the defending champion and top seed in the javelin, finished third of 15 in the event after posting a best throw of 193 feet, 9 inches. Two student-athletes from Southern Connecticut State finished in front of him, Hunter Stokes (201'6") and Cy MacIntosh (195'5").

Arnold was fourth of 14 in the long jump, with his leap of 21 feet, 9 inches improving on his collegiate best by two-and-three-quarters of an inch. Also in the long jump, junior David Hernandez (Tokyo, Japan) was tenth (20'7").

In the 4x800 relay, Bentley was fifth among eight entrants with a 7:49.51. Seniors Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) and Paul Bolick (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) ran the first two legs and were followed by junior Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) and freshman Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./ Morristown HS).

In the 10,000 meters, senior Eric Alatalo (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) and sophomore Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Alatalo posted a time of 32:52.31 and Murphy followed him across the line, 5.58 seconds later.

In addition to Murphy, two other Falcons missed scoring by just one place. Haas was ninth in the 1500 (3:57.75) and sophomore Anthony Giesing (Bradford, Vt./Oxbow HS) was ninth in the javelin, his throw of 168'8" improving on his PR by 19 inches.

With 16 points, Bentley finished day one of the championships in sixth place among 11 teams.

Sunday's action will get underway at 10 am.
