Arnold Leads Bentley Men at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On a day that the Bentley men's track and field program had student-athletes competing on opposite coasts, freshman Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) was the Falcons' top performer during the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT.

Arnold earned Bentley's only victory, taking the long jump in 21 feet, 6.25 inches, improving on his previous best by seven-and-a-half inches in the process. It moved him to number nine on Bentley's all-time performance list and to sixth on this spring's Northeast-10 Conference list.

Also in the long jump, junior David Hernandez (Tokyo, Japan) was third in the 20-competitor field, achieving a distance of 20'0.25".

Arnold's day also included finishing seventh of 30 in the 100 meters (11.59) and 11th of 34 in the 200 (23.81). He was also part of Bentley's 4x100 relay that finished seventh with its time of 45.86 eighth best in the NE10 so far this year.

Junior Beau Kraft(Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) had a pair of top-ten showings as he threw the shot 42'2.25" to finish seventh among 29 competitors and the discus 127'75" to take sixth among the same number of entrants.  

Bentley also found success in the throwing events from sophomore Anthony Giesing (Bradford, Vt./Oxbow HS) who was second of 26 in the javelin with a 159'1.75".

Freshman Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) has Bentley's top individual finish in the running events as he was third of 43 in the 1500 meters, his time of 4:03.38 a new personal best by 3.59 seconds. Also in the 1500, juniors Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and Graham Chapski (East Greenwich, R.I/East Greenwich HS) finished together in 4:10.69. Chapski was tabbed for eighth place and Higgins ninth in the non-scoring meet.

In the 200 meters, senior David Stoffel (Luxembourg) was fourth of 34 in 23.21 seconds. In addition, freshman Travis Leachman (Falmouth, Falmouth HS)) was eighth in 23.63.

Another Falcon who had a strong showing, 11th of 34 in the 800, was freshman Michael Cannata (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) in 2:04.46.

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Stonehill Skyhawk Classic, its final meet before the Northeast-10 Championships are held at Stonehill May 5-6.
