Sihvonen & Mattson Recognized by Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) and freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS), members of the Bentley University outdoor track team, were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference for their performance in the Bridgewater Bears Invitational last Saturday.

Sihvonen was named the conference's Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Mattson was chosen as the NE-10 Women's Track Rookie of the Week.

Sihvonen broke a 24-year-old school record in the javelin and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II championships with a throw of 198'6". He improved on the previous standard by nearly four feet and his own PR by 7 feet.

Last year, Sihvonen finished second in the javelin at the Northeast-10 Championships and was fourth in the event at the New Englands.

Mattson was busy during the opening meet of the outdoor season as she won the long jump (15'7.5"), was fourth in the 400 meters (1:02.84), finished ninth in the 200 (27.86) and was part of the Falcons' 4x100 relay that was third (54.39). Her 400 time was second best in the NE-10 this spring and her long jump performance elevated her to eighth on Bentley's all-time list.

During the indoor season, Mattson set a school record in the 600 meters and posted top eight finishes in the conference championships in both the long jump and triple jump.

The NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll included Bentley junior Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS). Competing at the Raleigh Relays on the campus of North Carolina State, ran the 1500 in 3:57.11, the third best performance in the NE-10 this spring. He was fifth among Division II runners and 45th overall in the meet.

Bentley returns to action Saturday at the Tufts Snowflake Classic.
