Skarin Returns to Home State & Wins 800 at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – Competing only about a half-hour from his hometown, Bentley University sophomore Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) ran to victory in the 800 meters during the Dartmouth Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Leverone Field House.

Skarin edged teammate Sean Nee (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS) by 0.12 seconds with a 1:55.54, a time that bettered his personal best by six-hundredths of a second. It put him second on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list with Nee right behind him at number three.

Nee and Skarin also ran the first two legs on Bentley's 4x400 relay which placed second among ten teams in 3:29.54, a performance that ranked sixth in the NE-10 so far this season.  They were joined by graduate student Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./ Southington HS) and junior Michael Bitto (North Reading, Mass./North Reading HS).

Junior Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) was third of 15 in the 1000 with his 2:34.88 elevating him to tenth on the NE-10 list. Maffiolini ran the conference's eighth best time of the season in the 500 meters with his 1:07.23 good for fifth among 23 competitors.

Sophomore Graham Chapski (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich HS) placed fourth among 30 runners in the 3,000 meters. His time of 8:57.30 was a PR by three seconds and the 16th best achieved in the conference this season.

In the mile, Bentley had four runners finish in the top half of 30-man field. Sophomore Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) was seventh (4:25.40, a PR by 6.89 seconds), junior Tim Bolick (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) was eighth (4:26.05), senior David Cooper (Woburn/Woburn HS) took 11th (4:30.30) and senior Anthony Lacey (Ogdensburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII HS) was 15th (4:38.43). Higgins and Bolick both moved into the top 12 on the NE-10 performance list.

 Next Saturday, Bentley will be at Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine's Invitational.
