Alatalo & Haas Chosen for Academic All-Northeast-10 Men’s Track Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Erik Alatalo (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) and Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS), rising juniors at Bentley University, have been selected for the 2015 Academic All-Northeast-10 Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Team, which was announced Wednesday.

It's the third All-Academic Award of the year for Haas, who was previously recognized for cross country and indoor track. He's one of only two men in the conference who was selected in all three disciplines. Alatalo, previously named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, is a first-time honoree.

Haas established personal bests in every event he ran this past year, including both the 800 meters (1:57.98) and the 1500 (3:56.36). He was eighth in the 1500 meters at the NE-10 Championships, as well as 25th in the 800 and fifth in the 4x800 (7:42.40). Haas owns a share of the school record in the outdoor 4x800 and is seventh in program history in the outdoor 1500.

Alatalo ran to fifth in the 10,000 at the Northeast-10's and 21st in the same event at the New Englands during a spring campaign that saw him post new PRs in the 3,000 (9:09.44), 5,000 (15:36.67) and 10,000 (32:19.83). Alatalo was ninth in the 10K among East Region runners and ranks 12th in school history in the outdoor two mile (9:53.23).

Both Haas and Alatalo have sparkling 3.85 grade point averages while majoring in finance and accountancy, respectively. In addition, Alatalo has a major in liberal studies with a concentration in global perspectives.
