Sihvonen Selected as NE-10 Men’s Field Rookie of the Year

WALTHAM, Mass. – The list of accolades for Bentley University javelin thrower Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) grew Thursday when the freshman was named the Men's Field Rookie of the Year in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Sihoven had an outstanding rookie season for the Falcons, one that culminated earlier this month with a fourth-place finish in the javelin during the New England Championships at MIT. His throw at that meet, 191'6", strengthened his hold on third on Bentley's all-time list, was third best among Northeast-10 competitors this season, was also the sixth best nationally by a Division II freshman and met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.

"Holt split his time between middle distance running and the javelin in high school but at the end of his senior year, he really began to improve in the javelin so we encouraged him to focus his energies in that event" said Bentley coach Kevin Curtin.

"When he arrived at Bentley, he found a training group led by seniors Chris Ricci and Jackie Carlson that helped him to continue to develop as a javelin thrower," Curtin continued. "Holt is a student of the javelin and his enthusiasm for the event is what enabled him to succeed this past season and will allow him to build upon these successes in future years."

Sihvonen's season also included a second-place finish in the Northeast-10 Championships and winning performances in the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College, the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT and the Skyhawk Invitational at Stonehill College.

Sihvonen, the NE-10 Men's Field Rookie of the Week four times, earned second-team All-Conference honors and was a USTFCCCA Division II All-East Region honoree.
