Sihvonen Posts Winning Performance in Javelin for 2nd Straight Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) finished first in the javelin for the second straight meet while competing in the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT's Henry Steinbrenner Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Sihvonen posted a throw of 184'0.25" to outdistance MIT's Harry Rein by more than seven feet. He led a strong Falcon showing in the event with senior Chris Ricci (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS) fifth (167'2.25"), junior Joe Simonini (Revere/Revere HS) eighth (158'4.25") and junior Wes Dupray (Rowley/St. John's Prep) ninth (157'1.25"). Both Ricci and Dupray joined their two teammates on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list in the event with Ricci now fifth and Dupray seventh.

Bentley's highest finishing runner was sophomore Tim Bolick (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS), who was second of 59 in the 800 meters. His time of 1:57.11 was a new personal best by 0.66 seconds. Also in the 800, junior Anthony Lacey (Ogdensburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII) was fifth with his 1:58.77 a PR by nearly two seconds.

Senior Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) was third of 34 in the 400 with his time of 50.27 seconds the fourth best recorded in the NE-10 so far this spring. He also achieved a PR in the 200 while finishing 11th of 54 in 22.69. That put him at number 15 on Bentley's all-time list.

Freshman Beau Kraft (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) finished fourth of 39 in the discus (132'45") and was also sixth of 38 in the shot put (44'4.75"). That latter throw was a PR and good for both eighth on the NE-10 performance list and the Falcons' all-time list.

In the same two events, senior John Chiulli (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) was eighth in the discus (124'6.25") and 12th in the shot (37'5"). Sticking with the field events, sophomore Matt Powell (Charlton/St. John's Shrewsbury HS) was fifth of 16 in the long jump (19'9.75"), junior Connor Hichens (Sharon/Sharon HS) was seventh of ten in the high jump (6'0") and Dupray was eighth of 23 in the hammer (114'7").

Sophomore Eric Alatalo (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) took fifth, in a field of 24, in the 5,000 meters with his 15:36.67 at PR by nearly 25 seconds and good for ninth in the NE-10 so far this spring. Also achieving PR's in the 5,000 by a substantial margin were junior David Cooper (Woburn/Woburn HS) (15:36.67) and freshman Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) (16:00.25). Cooper was the seventh man across the line and Higgins was 11th.

In the steeplechase, sophomore Andrew McCluskey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) finished in 10:28.27 to place sixth among his 14. That clocking elevated him to ninth on the NE-10 list.

Bentley's final competition before the conference championships will be the Stonehill Classic next Friday.
