Sihvonen Named NE-10 Men’s Field Rookie of the Week; 3rd Straight Week a Falcon Has Received That Honor

WALTHAM, Mass. – After approaching the school record in the javelin, Bentley University freshman Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) has been named the Men's Field Rookie of Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

This marks the third straight week that Bentley has produced the Men's Field Rookie of the Week with Sihvonen following two-time honoree Beau Kraft (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS).

Competing only a little more than 20 miles from his hometown in the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College, Sihvonen placed first in the javelin with his throw of 191 feet the best by a Bentley student-athlete in 23 years. He exceeded his PR by 27'6" with his performance second best in the NE-10 to date, and also third best in the USTFCCCA East Region.

Five of Sihvonen's teammates were also recognized by the conference for their performance over the weekend with selection to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll. They are seniors Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) and Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) and a trio of juniors: Samantha Albanese (Lynnfield/Lynnfield HS), Sarah Brennan (Quincy/Notre Dame Academy) and John Chiulli (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS).

Froehlich broke her own school record in the hammer for the second straight week, posting a distance of 123'4". She exceeded the former standard by 4'7" while placing eighth overall.

Albanese placed fourth of 12 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time putting her third on both the Northeast-10 and the USTFCCCA Division II East Region performance lists.  Farrington finished third in the shot put, with her throw of 37'11.5" a season best and the third best in the NE-10 so far this spring. It also put her at number five on the USTFCCCA East Region list.

In her first action since cross country, Brennan ran the conference's second-fastest 5,000 this season, 18:13.62, with her time also ranking fourth on Bentley's all-time list and second in the USTFCCCA East Region list. She finished eighth of 44 in the race while bettering her PR by 85 seconds.

Chiulli took first in a field of 34 in the discus with his throw of 138'6" exceeding his PR by nine inches. It put him at number six on the NE-10 performance list for the season.

This Saturday, the majority of the team will be at MIT for the Sean College Invitational.
