Chiulli & Sihvonen Post Victories during Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior John Chiulli (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) and freshman Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) turned in winning performances as the Bentley University men's outdoor track and field team finished fourth of 14 in the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College Saturday.

Sihvonen posted one of the best javelin throws in Bentley history with his distance of 191 feet putting him at number three on the program's all-time list and at the top of this spring's Northeast-10 Conference performance list. Less than four feet shy of the school record, it was the best throw by a Falcon in 23 years and bettered his previous best by more than 27 feet.

Also in the javelin, junior Joe Simonini (Revere, Mass./Revere HS)  placed fifth and exceeded his PR by nearly ten feet with a 165'3".

Chiulli outdistanced 33 competitors in the discus with a throw of 138'6". That improved on his previous collegiate best by nine inches.

Senior Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) and junior Connor Hichens (Sharon, Mass./Sharon HS) were also among the Bentley student-athletes who excelled in the meet. Maffiolini was second of 52 in the 200 meters, finishing in 22.85 seconds, and was third of 38 in the 400. His time in the latter, 50.55, was good for fourth on the NE-10 list.

Hichens tied the best high jump performance in the conference this season with his 6'2" a PR by four inches and good for eighth on Bentley's all-time list. It also put him third among 16 competitors in the meet.  Hichens was also fourth of 14 in the triple jump (42'3.5") and 11th of 52 in the 200 (23.72).

Two-time NE-10 Men's Field Rookie of the Week Beau Kraft (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) set a PR in the shot put (42'9") was finishing third of 31. He was also eighth of 34 in the discus with a throw of 118'4".

Senior Anthony Charter (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Reg. HS) finished fourth of 23 in the long jump after a best of 20'1.5". In the 800, freshman Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) bettered his PR by 4.36 seconds while placing ninth of 65 in 1:55.51.

Bentley totaled 84 points in the meet, finishing behind Tufts University (188), Worcester State (131) and Wesleyan (95).

This week schedule includes the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton and the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT.
