Boston Globe West: "Catching up with Mark Ivanov"

Boston Globe sports correspondent Marvin Pave recently caught up with former Bentley All-America decathlete Mark Ivanov, a 1994 inductee into the Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame. Here's his feature, which appeared in the Mar. 1 edition of the Globe West and online at www.bostonglobe.com.

His first love, athletically, was soccer, but when Mark Ivanov won the national 17-and-under decathlon the summer after his graduation from Acton-Boxborough Regional High, breaking Bruce Jenner's record in the process, his plans changed.

A soccer and two-season track star at Acton-Boxborough, Ivanov decided to focus on track and field at Bentley College (now Bentley University) in Waltham.

The results were spectacular: He still holds nine program records, was selected Bentley's Outstanding Male Senior Athlete in 1989, and was a four-time Division 2 All-American.
