Skarin Wins Open 800 during GBTC Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – In just his second meet as a collegian, Bentley University freshman Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) ran to victory in the open 800 meters during the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard University's Gordon Track Sunday afternoon. It was the only first-place finish for the Falcon men's indoor track team, which returned to action after a seven-week semester break.

Skarin posted a time of 1:58.39, an improvement of 4.29 seconds over his showing in the UMass-Boston Indoor Opener last month and the ninth best recorded by a Northeast-10 runner this season. He was also part of Bentley's 4x440 yard relay which was second of six entrants with a 3:39.75. That relay also included senior Christian Connolly (Kingston/Silver Lake Regional HS) and freshmen Ben Brayton (Middleboro/Middleboro HS) and Jake Phelan (Medfield/ Medfield HS).

Junior Connor Hichens (Sharon/Sharon HS) had Bentley's only individual second-place finish, that coming in a field of seven in the triple jump with a distance of 43'3". Hichens also competed in the long jump, placing seventh of 26 with a leap of 20'1.5". Among the athletes who finished in front of him was teammate Anthony Charter (Hubbardston/Quabbin Reg. HS), a senior whose 20'7.75" put him fourth.

Another fourth was posted by freshman Beau Kraft (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) in the shot put with his 42'6.25" a collegiate best and the ninth best by an NE-10 performer thus far this season. Also in the shot, senior John Chiulli (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) was seventh (38'4").

In the longer running events, Bentley's top performers were sophomores Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./ Ramsey HS) and Eric Alatalo (Wilmington/Wilmington HS), along with junior David Cooper (Woburn/Woburn HS).

Haas was seventh of 69 in the open mile (4:26.66), Alatalo was eighth of 28 in the 5000 (15:57.95) and Cooper was ninth of 29 in the open 3000 (9:09.42). In addition, sophomore Andrew McCluskey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) was ninth in the 5000 (16:37.10) and Cadorette was 11th in the 3000 (9:11.46).

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Boston University. In addition, the Falcons will be represented in the indoor heptathlon at the Tufts Stampede on Friday and Saturday.
